For a truly unforgettable wedding experience, sail back in time aboard the schooner Manitou on the sparkling waters of Grand Traverse Bay.
Traverse Tall Ship has been making wedding dreams come true since 1987. Sailing from our Traverse City dock, this majestic 114’ replica of a 19th century schooner offers daily cruises on picturesque Grand Traverse Bay. Manitou’s spacious decks can comfortably accommodate up to 59 passengers making her the perfect venue for….
Our staff will work with you from start to finish on all aspects of the event. After 25 years, we have a pretty good idea of what works well (and what doesn’t!) and have developed relationships with a number of catering companies, entertainers and officiants that know the ship and can make the most of the unique setting. We’re happy to make recommendations, but we will also do all we can to accommodate and assist whomever you choose to provide services for your ceremony. Contact us today to begin planning your perfect day!
How much does it cost?
Charter rates are available here, or you can contact us for more information.
Is it possible to have my event catered?
Yes. While we do not offer in-house catering, we often host events with outside catering. You are welcome to use anyone you like, though we strongly encourage the caterer to contact us well in advance of the event to arrange for any special requirements. Two caterers that we have worked with extensively and highly recommend are Silver Swan Homemade Foods and Grandview Catering.
Is it possible to bring alcohol aboard?
The Manitou possesses a liquor license from the State of Michigan that forbids outside alcohol to be brought onboard the vessel. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the ship features a bar with an excellent selection of local and name brand beer, wine, sparkling wines and soft drinks. We can even arrange to have your choice of beverages on board, but because of the license any alcohol must be ordered through and provided by us.
May we have music/entertainment?
Yes, but be advised that the vessel does not have 120 VAC service (household current) available. Acoustic musicians or battery-powered audio devices are your best option. We have worked with Sullivan Entertainment in the past.
What is your reservation policy?
We require a 50% deposit to hold a reservation. The balance is due no later than 14 days before the date of the event.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations are accepted up to two weeks before the sail and deposits are returned in full. Cancellations received less than 14 days before sailing will be returned if space can be resold.
What if the weather is bad?
While the vast majority of our cruises go out without a hitch, weather is a reality that has to be taken into consideration with any outdoor wedding. Traverse Tall Ship Co. will cancel the sail in the event of a thunderstorm or significant, steady rain. If we cancel you receive a full refund. We strongly recommend that you choose an alternate site that would be suitable as a “Plan B” ceremony location in the event of bad weather.
