To Captain Dave McGinnis and the Crew of
the Schooner Manitou:
My extended family recently returned from
a vacation near Traverse City, Michigan.
While there were many beautiful things
to see and exciting things to do in the
area, we all agreed that our two-hour excursion
aboard the schooner Manitou was the highlight
of the trip. The tall ship cruise was wonderful
in and of itself. I can see how once experienced,
such sailing becomes, if not a constant
calling, at least a happy memory. The trip
was somehow both incredibly relaxing and
exhilarating.
Even if the ship itself were the only good
part of the trip, it would have been well
worth the cost of admission. However, the
passion for sailing and the ship was clear
in you and in all of your crew. You and
they were endlessly patient with questions
about the history of the ship, life aboard
and sailing in general.
"
One of your crew told us that she was very
happy in her job because of advice she
received from her mother: "Find a
job you love and you'll never work a day
in your life." This love of the ship
and sailing was evident in your whole crew
and made the trip even more special. Their
enthusiasm and dedication were remarkable.
They turned what was already a pleasant
cruise into something truly extraordinary.
Both my three year old son and sixty year
old father enjoyed the opportunity you
gave them to steer the ship under sail.
If for only two hours, you took us into
your family and showed us the life you
so clearly enjoy. We came away with one
of those all too rare feelings of getting
so much more than we paid for or expected.
It was a day we will not soon forget.
Sincerely,
Andrew Ozete
Dear Tall Ship Crew:
Thank you for the wonderful accommodations that you provided for our wedding
day celebration. Everyone was very impressed with the ship and the excellent
service from the crew.
Have a great summer!

Captain Dave and Crew,
Wow! What a wonderful experience. Wednesday I spent the night on the Manitou
for a memorable bed and breakfast experience.
The evening sail was lots of fun. The "Song of the Lakes" band was
great and added to the fun. Your wine was tasty.
The absolute best part of the experience was spending the night. Though the bunks
were comfortable and ample, I slept most of the night on deck lulled by the balmy
breeze and sound of waves.
The crew worked quietly around until I woke to the aroma of coffee and those
delicious fresh baked muffins and Matt serenading us. When I thought it couldn't
get better we went to the galley for Wendy's home cooking. Had to get her cookbook!
Thanks for a great time.

To Whom it May Concern:
Good morning! I just wanted to thank you and your crew for the wonderful time
my fiancee and I had on the evening sail and subsequent B & B that followed.
From the onset of check-in, the shuttle to and from the Manitou and finally check-out,
we had felt welcomed.
[The staff's] professionalism and courteousness resonated throughout our stay.
Open to any and all questions, they unabashedly answered those curious to understand
the way things might have been from another era of seamanship. Having served
in the U. S. Navy, I appreciated the opportunity to once more see the morning
fog on the harbor, as viewed from the deck with a cup of Wendy's coffee in hand.
So to you all thanks again, as it was a true pleasure to meet and sail with this
fine crew.
Sincerely,
T. Denny & L. Harrington
